Studio M is a hotel that has maximised its space to create a very cool loft style concept. It feels like staying at someone’s Airbnb apartment rather than a hotel and it certainly was different to anything else I had experienced.
There was no sink inside the bathroom and was instead located in the living room beneath the stairs. This admittedly felt a little alien to me, however, who can resist floor to ceiling windows? Every time I went either up to my bed or came down I had to briefly pause to admire the view from the double story windows, though, I don’t recommend the loft concept for everyone as it was a little difficult navigating my way down the stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Studio M embrace their uniqueness and when I was there, they were taking hospitality technology to another level by rolling out a prototype of their new robot delivery service. Yes, a real live robot! The cute robot reminded me of R2D2 from Star Wars, especially when he got agitated that I was blocking his path in an attempt to get a picture while he was trying to make a delivery. Seems like we Instagrammers don’t just annoy humans.
The hotel is located right along the Singapore River in a bustling area full of restaurants, cafés and bars, which creates a vibrant nightlife and a lovely place for an evening meal that overlooks the river. The nearest MRT station to Studio M was Fort Canning and this is about a 10-minute walk if you walk along the river. Arriving by taxi might be easier until you get your bearings.
I recommend Studio M for anyone who wants to stay somewhere a little different and for young couples or friends who want to be able to enjoy the nightlife that’s available at Robertson Quay. If you need some ideas on what to do in Singapore, don’t forget to check out my travel guide.
